Scooter

Steven bought me this sweet little scooter for my birthday! Now all I need is a basket big enough to strap Shelby into. Then we're off to buy biscuits downtown!

Shelby keeps the seat warm

I wonder if they sell doggie helmets? Thanks to the magic of Google, I found these three links.
Option 1
Option 2
Option 3 a homemade one

What do you think? Good idea? Waste of money because they aren't certified saftey products? Shelby doesn't belong on a scooter? Leave a comment, because whatever we end up doing will end up on the blog. :)

Very cute idea and the pictures on those sites are too funny...BUT I don't think it's practical. Mostly I wonder if it'll stay in place even when Shelby gives it a good shake? Though I do have to admit, Shelby would look awefully sweet in a helmet.

The helmets were so funny. It never occured to me to put a helmet on a dog but I think it is a good idea.

Here's the problem I think you'll encounter. Pugs have these round little heads with no necks. I know this is a surprise to you Ü. I think you'll never find one that fits right.

All in all I think it is a good idea.

hmm to me it doesnot matter if it is certified or not im sure it will keep shelby's head from splitting open. It look's pretty durible, and who says shelby does not belong on a scooter i once saw a cat on a motorcycle on animal planet so if a cat can do it im sure shelby can to!!!!!
xoxoxoxoxo to shelby and family

I like Option 2. Shelby would look cool in it! I'm wondering though if Shelby would also need goggles or some sort of sunglasses so she doesn't get anything in her eyes? Let us know if Shelby get's her first scooter ride.

For some reason, I can't view the picture! All I see is a red "X"...please help :)

because i know the ways of the Pug, i would say just find a way to strap her in and be extra careful while riding. chances are good the product won't fit her head, but i guess if you find a returnable/refundable product, then it's worth a shot i guess.

We covered something like this a while ago in our Puppytrends blog:

As well, you could get a hardtop carrier:

I'm like Amy and can't seem to see the pic either...what to do??

I think all of these helmets are better than nothing. I'm bummed they don't seem to have a pink one. That would be adorable.

Don't forget to have her wear her doggles!

(I can't see the pic either)

Picture problem is fixed. Thanks for letting me know.

Shelby looks adorable as usual, and I think the helmet is a good idea if you can find one that fits/stays on, but I also wanted to comment on how hot that Falcon in your garage looks! NICE!!

Oh, Shelby looks like a professional! And, Happy Birthday!

yeah, i think either option would be good, even though i don't have a dog! i think it would be cute to see! as long as she is protected well enough, i say go for it! show pictures of her soon!

Happy B-Day Winnie and have a great time scooter-ing w/Shelby!

Hi Winnie,

I agree that although it's a good idea it would be tough to keep it on - the no neck part of the pug is oh so true! Doggles are a great idea though - especially for a pug. They are doggy goggles. Oh man, I can just imagine how cute all of this would look on Shelby!! :) Your site is awesome - I look forward to it every day.

They also make dog seats for motorcycles, I bet they would probably work on scooters as well. If you google "dog seat for motorcycle" it will bring up quite a few pages, this was one of the links I found:

shelby already has doggles, doesn't she? that's a good idea. a hardtop carrier might be the safest but also kind of defeats the purpose of even taking shelby on the scooter w/ you in the first place. give the helmet a shot and make sure she's in good and tight and i know you'll drive that baby extra safe when the shelbster is on board!

also, don't you think it's kind of ironic that woman that makes "helmets" for her dog and promotes wearing helmets for humans doesn't actually make her dog wear a 'real' one? what are her helmets made out of i couldn't really tell from the pics if they were hard or not...sure is cute though!!!

[and yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!]

Happy Birthday Winnie! Cool scooter!
I wonder if one of those front facing "backpacks" would work for Shelby? She wouldn't have to balance on anything. I think I'd choose the first helmet as it appears on a handicapped dog site and is reasonably priced unlike helmet number 2. I don't know about the homemade styrofoam job. As the mom of a one eyed Pug, I'd definately go for the goggles to protect those beautiful bulgy eyes.

There's a motorcycle dude that frequents the dog park that Eagle and I go to that actually has a mini helmet and jacket for his dog .. Eazy the Poodle. It's really quite cute to see them on the bike together motoring around town. So whatever will add to Shelby's already serious cuteness factor is the option you should go with.

And Happy Birthday! What did Shelby get you?

Oh Winnie!
A Honda C-70 Passport, I am soooo jealous! Happy Birthday from Barb, Lily the Sheltie and Ming the pug in Portland, OR

Yes, Shelby does have doggles:

I can only imagine them with a helmet. It reminds me of Snoopy pretending to be the Red Baron.

WOW!! You yuppies have WAY too much money, and not enough children to use up that money! A helmet on a dog........HMMP!

Posted by: Lisa | Aug 26, 2006 11:04:57 AM

Oh, posted too quickly! Happy b=day Winnie!! Being a former motorcycle rider, and knowing how crazy other drivers are on the roads, I would NEVER take my precious baby on the bike, even around the neighborhood. Way too dangerous honey! Maybe around the house or apartment building slowly, she could spook and jump out!
