Shelby is up for adoption

I know what you're thinking, but it's not our Shelby. Dennis from South San Jose, CA just wrote me. He needs to part with his pug, also named Shelby. Sadly he needs to part with his Shelby because he is relocating and cannot find a dog-friendly place to live. Here's how he describes his Shelby. "She is well-behaved and grew up with a cat in the house. Shelby knows how to: sit, roll-over, stay, down, shake, fetch. She is in perfect health, microchipped and all her vet visits are up to date. I was hoping that you might know someone who is looking a pug and could provide her a nice loving home. Ideally, we would like to find a person who is currently owned by a pug or used to be owned in the past :)" If anyone knows of a loving home for Dennis' Shelby please leave a comment here, or email me at shelby(at)gopugyourself.com. Visit Dennis' website for more pictures of his Shelby.

UPDATE: Shelby has been adopted by a new family. Thanks to all who inquired.

Hi Winne,

How do I get in touch with Dennis? His website doesn't seem to have an email link. I have a great pug and I think that she could use a pug sister! I live in San Jose.

I would love to take this cutie into my Home in Moorpark Ca. I have a 1 year old female pug named Bella we are actively involved in the Thousand Oak Pug Meetups and would love for Bella to have a Sister. Please some respond to my email address willing to drive.

Has anyone received a reply to emails sent to Dennis' email address?

I sent two emails and have not heard a thing. I would be so delighted to add her to my family. She would have a very loving home. Sushi and Shelby, it just sounds right!

I feel the same way...I also have an inkling that Shelby might even be related to my boy Loki. He was also originally from South San Jose and he is tall and long as the pictures of Shelby show her to be. And their faces aside from coloring are identically structured. It is kind of spooky how much alike they look.

I hope this little girl finds a wonderful home, but I just don't get how people can give up their dog. If I couldn't find pet friendly housing, I wouldn't move. I'm really not trying to be rude b/c I don't know the specifics of this situation, but I'm curious what you guys think is an acceptable reason to give up a pet? I can't think of many, but maybe I'm closed minded??

Apparently it is oppressively expensive to find pet-friendly apartments in Vancouver.

Looking at the photos of Dennis' Shelby, she seems really well cared for, and loved. Sometimes life hands people tough decisions, and at those times, it's nice to see others offer their help.

As for my personal opinion of acceptable reasons to give up a dog, I'd imagine that financial hardship, lengthy quarantines, personal illness, or perhaps the chance for a better life for the animal would all be legitimate. That doesn't make parting with the furry member of the family any easier. It must be hard for Dennis to part with his Shelby, and I hope he's making progress on finding her a good home.

My daughter and I visited Shelby with Dennis on Tuesday in the hopes of adopting her. It is a bit difficult to understand the circumstances under which people would be willing to give up their beloved pet. I can't say I understand it myself, but after visiting her in her current environment, I can honestly say that I am VERY glad that Shelby found a new home with people who will care for her and give her the attention and consideration she deserves going forward.

Thanks Winnie for letting us know about the other Shelby and her need for a new home.

Hi all,

I'm Shelby's new mom. She and my pug Sophie have gotten along fabulously. I couldn't ask for a better introduction to the family. For everyone around the bay area, I visit the pug meetups reguarly, so you will be sure to see Shelby and her sister Sophie there. It's been a fun and crazy last 36 hours having two pugs instead of one, but we could not be more thrilled. I love Shelby very much already and rest assured that she is in very loving, caring, (and sometimes spoiling!) hands. Love to all!

Claire, Rich, Sophie, and Shelby.
