Meeting Franklin

When Shelby was a puppy, we called upon friends with dogs to help socialize her during her first 4 months. Now it was Shelby's turn to return the favor. We visited some friends who recently added Franklin the pug puppy to their family. It's really hard trying to get a photo of two rapidly moving pugs. Franklin is a total crack-up.

Franklin

Here they are together. Shelby is deliriously happy. Franklin seems like he was distracted by something to the right (as puppies often are). I only managed to get this photo after about 90 minutes of chasing each other around. I'm surprised that both of them aren't passed out at this point.

Good for Shelby, helping to socialize Franklin! You can tell it's such a chore for her....poor girl. Thanks for posting this, Winnie..an important part of pug-ucation.

Hi Wendy - how much does Shelby weigh? She always looks pretty small in her other photos ... but next to the puppy she looks fairly large! My pug is full grown (she's about a year and 3 months) and weighs 12 pounds if that.

It's so great to have a playmate - especially for a puppy. Our older one plays with our puppy but the puppy still has TONS of energy left over. We need to find someone who can meet up with regularly so the puppy can can just play, play, play!

Shelby looks like she is in pug puppy heaven.

Shelby is about 19 lbs, which seems about right for her. When we first got her, she was no bigger than little Franklin!

Aww how cute! we bet that was so much fun for Shelby and Frank! And what a nice idea! We wish we had pugs nearby to play with!

DO you worry about fleas spreading when your dogs socilize w othr dogs? What if your friends do not use any prevention?

believe it or not, fleas aren't really a big problem here. I've only seen a flea on Shelby once, and that was when she went to visit a friend who lived closer to an unkept yard. And Franklin lives in an urban area, so there's not a lot of exposure. During summer, I put some Frontline on her, but otherwise, during the winter, we've found that she's perfectly fine without it. Franklin, being the puppy, has a lot more risk in playing with other dogs, but we keep Shelby up to date on her shots, so everything was safe.

i have 4 pugs, one is tiny (12 lbs), but the others are in the 18-19 lb range. they're all different, and alot depends on how they were bred. mabel precious was a puppy mill dog rescue, so she is really small. xxoo
