Earthquakes and Pet ID

We've had some earthquake activity. There was a tsunami alert for a little while due to a big earthquake off the coast of Oregon. Luckily nothing happened, but Steven had the good idea to keep Shelby's tags on her during this time in case she gets separated from us in an emergency. This particular tag we ordered from Boomerang Tags. Shelby has two. A metal collar tag, and a plastic one. They are both very nice. The collar tag sits flush with the collar, and the plastic one can have information on both sides, which is enough to contain all her identification information. This means no jingling!

Hi Winnie!

I've been reading about you and Shelby since the beginning and as a pet lover, I really enjoy learning about your ideas for happy and healthy pets.

I had one quick question regarding your dog tags. My little Milo loves to chew on his tags and they usually end up illegible within a week of purhcasing them. I've only tried metal before though. Do you see a difference in how the plastic vs the metal hold up?

Thanks!

Is Shelby micro-chipped? Even if her tags come off she can still be IDed. Here in upstate NY it cost $65. I don't know about other parts of the country but at least you have an idea of price.

Ah, I've been busy, so sorry about not responding to these questions earlier.

Shelby doesn't tend to chew her tags. She can't reach them when she's wearing them. And the metal collar tag we got is impossible to chew when it's worn.

And yes, Shelby is microchipped! I forgot how much it cost us, but we got her chipped while she was getting spayed. there was some issue about the chips that PetSmart uses vs. the ones that the SPCA uses. Apparently, not all the local shelters had the equipment to read the PetSmart chip.

I got Loki chipped when he was fixed at the Pennisula Humane society, they only charged $25.
